Our atelier is located in Plagwitz, Leipzig — inside the former Kammgarnspinnerei Stöhr,
a long-retired yarn factory with high ceilings, rough edges, and a history rooted in textile production. It wasn’t planned —
we found it by chance — but it turned out to be exactly what we needed.
The place itself holds a story that stretches back over a century. This factory was founded in 1880 and soon became one of Leipzig’s most significant industrial operations, known internationally for its production of high-quality yarns.
By the early 20th century, Stöhr’s textiles were exported far beyond Germany — reaching markets in whole Europe, and even America. It was a time of innovation and growth, where the factory’s machines powered by belt-driven systems filled the air with a rhythmic hum.
The building we are in, used to be the main administration of this once biggest German factory of it’s kind.
The factory’s heyday has long passed, but remnants of its legacy remain. The site now pulses with life in a new way, with vibrant workshops, creative studios, food spaces, a climbing gym and even a distillery. We love being part of that mix.
We’ve got four rooms:
- The former CEO’s office, now our small showroom — where we welcome visitors and clients.
- A large workspace for pouring latex sheets and letting them cure. The windows are mostly facing to the north, so we can avoid direct sunlight in this room.
- A color lab, where pigments, additives, and glitter are tested, blended, and evolved.
- And a design room, where our garments are created
The building wasn’t move-in ready.
We had to update power, lighting, even the floors to get a fitting setup. And it is still growing, being upgraded and also changed, to fit our requirements.
As for our tools… well, let’s just say we don’t always use them how they were intended.
Some were built. Some were hacked. Some are still prototypes.
We don’t share every step publicly — not because we’re hiding secrets, but because the work is still evolving. We’re always adjusting. Always improving. And always figuring out what works best for our vision.
This place isn’t perfect.
But it’s ours. And it’s the foundation of everything Se’tyo makes possible.
